Into the New Year Louisville 40k Open

This year the Louisville 40k group is working on setting up a 2 day 3+ (depending on player count) game tournament for Monday December 30th and Tuesday December 31st. One of the things we are looking into is determing a rule set that everybody can agree on and enjoy. To do this we wanted to have our players vote on their preference for the FoB (Feast of Blades) TO rule set or the Nova TO rule set. You can find the FoB rules here and the Nova rules here. Nova also contains a FAQ for most/all armies that can be found here. FOB FAQ can be found here.  Thank you for your feedback and feel free to leave more comments in our FB thread or on the Forum board.

Which tournament rule set would you prefer we use 12/30/13 and 12/31/13?

  • Feast of Blades Open (FoB) (75%, 6 Votes)
  • Nova Open (25%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 8

Here is a summary of the differences as far as I can tell

    No Forge World
    1850 Points
Same terrain every mission, also mirror matched terrain across the the board.
Additional rules on scoring/mission setup – Objectives already determined and placement set.

    Feast of Blades Open –
    Forge World
    2000 Points Double Org Chart
    Play normal book missions.

This looks correct, I do believe we had mentioned doing just single FOC at 1850 in the FB thread setting up the Tourney however I do see the conflict in that discussion and what’s posted. Thanks for pointing these differences out Kevin.

im for one force organization chart. 1850 sounds good, perfect size for a core army plus a bit of fluffy units.

my opinion of forge world is that if you have the models, you should use them, because they are cool. its not every day you get to see some unique units in action so take advantage!

I think the everybody is ok with FW as long as you have the book and it has the 40k approved stamp. Apoc and experimental FW rules are not allowed right now. Thoughts?

  • John  says:

I agree with both Alex and Clark, FW units are cool and add diversity to the game. Just like any other part of 40k you have to have an approved book to use them, and you have to have it with you so your opponent can review. Experimental units are very cool, but very few seem to make it to Approved status with their original experimental rules. For that reason if they are marked experimental they shouldn’t be allowed. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone breakout the new GW and Forge World Stuff. That being said I’m also open for son escalation games after Christmas if anyone is interested in running their big bad units!
